Hello all
Just to let you know that Henk has kindly donated an unreleased track from the Het Draagbare Huis sessions for a free download album called All Surprises that will be premiered on my Nits-friendly radio show The Curve Ball on Tuesday. (www.wcrfm.com 8-10pm UK time). Called Haarspeldbocht (Hairpin Bend), it's a terrific track and I find it hard to imagine why it was omitted in the first place.
The album - which will be available in lossless and lossy formats - contains 21 tracks adding up to some 79 minutes of wonderful music, and if you couldn't make the show, the download address for All Surprises - featuring Henk's rather lovely Haarspeldbocht (Hairpin Bend) - is http://thecurveball.bandcamp.com/

Ter gelegenheid van het 30 jarig bestaan vroeg het Haagse Parkpopfestival aan Robert Jan Stips iets te verzinnen om dat feit 'luistah' bij te zetten.

De Staat van Verwarring
op woensdag 3 maart in Speakers
Talkshow met als gasten Robert Jan Stips en Theo Jansen
Woensdagavond 3 maart zal de absurdistische late night show De Staat van Verwarring (voorheen VPRO Nederland 3) live te zien zijn in Speakers. Weer met Pieter Jouke (CQC), weer met Ronald Snijders. En natuurlijk met neologismen, vreemde gedachtesprongen en absurde vragen aan twee interessante gasten die dit keer van vlees en bloed op het podium aanwezig is. De een Robert Jan Stips (o.a. Golden Earring, The Nits, Freek de Jonge) en de ander Theo Jansen (strandbeesten). Beiden zijn woonachtig in Delft.
Maar ook in de voorstelling: fijne filmpjes en dito rubrieken. De Staat van Verwarring betekent anderhalf uur lang absurditeit op hoog niveau. Er wordt gelachen en wellicht steekt u er nog wat van op. In ieder geval laten we u niet meer wachten tot na de derde herhaling van de Wereld Draait Door, maar begint het programma netjes om 20.30 uur (plaatselijke tijd). Een vreemde talkshow waar het laatste woord nooit over zal vallen.

Dennis Versteeg, the man that knows more about the Nits than the Nits, wrote a book to share his knowledge:
"I have been working on a Nits book for quite some time and now it looks like it will be finished soon. I am aiming for a release in December. It will be called NITS FILE.
The book is in English and more or less an encyclopedia of Nits music. It's basically a totally rewritten, restructured and vastly expanded version of my Nits Concert File website.
The book has several sections: Albums (including solo and related projects), Tours, Videos and the most important one: Songs. The book includes everything the band did from the early '70s until Strawberry Wood and the recent tour.
Each album, video and tour is described with background information and facts. The Songs section is probably three quarters of the album and describes all Nits songs known to me, including unreleased songs or versions of songs. Each song's lyrics and music is described, how it was played at concerts over the years and if there are alternate version and/or a video clip, these are also described. There's a subsection about known cover songs the band performed."

Nits will end their Doing the Dishes tour at the yearly Oerol Festival on the isle of Terschelling with a concert in the woods. Location : Bostheater near Hoorn, saturday June 20. We may do multiple shows, but only the last one will feature a videopresentation of our impressions of the trip to Oerol.
In the meanwhile Rob Kloet is the festival's hot tip with his solo perfomances on a secret location for an audience 4 persons maximum (12 performances a day)

STAGE ACCIDENT
Monday January 19, a sold out show for the Aardige Jongens at the Royal Carré theatre in Amsterdam. During the last song of the show, the band gathers at the front of the stage, preparing to make a round through the audience, Henny Vrienten and Frank Boeijen on guitars, Henk Hofstede was armed with a megaphone. Suddenly, Henk Hofstede falls into the orchestra pit, three meters below. After moment of total panic on stage and in the audience, we hear Henk shouting through the megaphone 'Don't panic Nothing wrong with me'. Henk's fall was broken by a net, but still he ended quite painfully on top of a number of keyboard and music stands.
After a minute of continued disorder Henk returns to the stage to do three more encore songs before being taken to the hospital. The damage: a rather serious wound on his hand, a bruised arm and bruises all over the body. First song of the encore started with the words 'He walks straight ahead, sees nothing'

Denk niet dat je daarmee hem wel kent . Hij schreef, produceerde, arrangeerde, ook voor televisie programma’s, solo albums…
Tussen eind oktober en half December kiest hij ervoor op de meest spontane manier zijn uitgebreide repertoire te doorkruisen: puur piano en zang, zonder franje, uit op veel speel/luisterplezier en kontakt met het publiek in niet te grote theaters.
In verfrissende piano versies, vaak ter plekke aangepast en/of aangevraagd * ) komen hits, maar ook materiaal uit onverwachte hoek te voorschijn. Daarnaast zal het ons niet verbazen dat Robert Jan tussendoor hier en daar een aardige sluier weet op te lichten…

'Op stap met drie meiden van de Katholieke Vrouwenorganisatie Ammerzoden. Hij nam de dankbare taak op zich om deze bijzondere vrouwen rond te leiden in de 'culturele winkel' van Nederland. Tijd voor een flinke dosis Rock n' Roll van The Nits. Frontman Henk Hofstede is al meer dan dertig jaar bezig, dus hij weet inmiddels wel hoe hij een publiek warm moet krijgen. Of hij ook de dames kan overtuigen is nog de vraag, want twee van de meiden hebben nog nooit een popconcert meegemaakt. Henk haalt alles uit de kast. Misschien is een kijkje bij de soundcheck of een stoomcursus musiceren genoeg. Zo niet, dan kan meneer Hofstede nog altijd zijn Rock n' Roll charmes voor de dag halen.'

DOING THE DISHES, our latest release, has been exceptionally well recieved by press and audience. In it's first week of release in Holland it has entered the CD charts at nr 8, which also made us CD of the week, whatever that may mean.

Bijzondere voorstelling met NITS en Ocobar op 16 oktober in Muziekgebouw aan het IJ
Op 16 oktober is er een speciale, extra muzikale voorstelling van 'De Toeschouwer' in het Muziekgebouw aan het IJ in Amsterdam. Behalve de vaste muzikanten en de gastmusici Emmy Verhey en Hella de Jonge zijn ook NITS en Ocobar van de partij.

HENK'S KEUZEFILM
filmhuis Rialto in Amsterdam speelt DA Pennebaker's rockumentary Don't Look Back, over Bob Dylan's eerste tour door Engeland, als 
keuzefilm van Henk Hofstede. Voorafgaand aan de voorstelling licht hij zijn keuze toe. Niet alleen in woord - hij zal ook live (op gitaar) enkele nummers ten gehore brengen die zijn keuze illustreren.
